Gajapathinagaram (Vizianagaram): Local police on Monday registered Nirbhaya case against the accused Srikanth, Parisanna, Shivaji, Jeetendra and Bhanuprasad, for their involvement in the gang-rape on Sunday of a second year Intermediate student, who is a dalit. She was admitted to a private hospital in Vizianagaram.

According to the police, the shocking incident took place after the youth caught on their cell phone cameras the victim taking bath in her house at New Colony, Puritipenta. They threatened to upload the scenes on the net if she did not agree to satisfy their carnal desire, a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother on Sunday said.

The youth were working in a local mobile shop. They were being interrogated by Bobbili DSP Ishaq Ahmed, CI Chandrasekhar said. Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party women’s wing president Shoba Hymavati, Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad chairperson Swati Rani and local MLA K A Naidu consoled the victim in the hospital. Later talking to the media, Swati Rani described the incident as disgraceful and shameful. She said soon after the news was conveyed to him, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wanted a case under the Nirbhaya Act be registered against the accused. The ZP chief said all facilities would be provided to the victim for her education.

She stated that Naidu had taken a serious view of the gang-rape and reacted strongly. The CM directed DGP J V Ramudu to initiate action under the Nirbhaya act. He wanted the victim to be helped in all respects. Legislator Naidu said he had taken the girl to the police station for lodging a complaint and later to the hospital. He assured sanction of a house to the victim’s family.
