New reforms in teaching

• BEd and MEd, now for two years
• System likely to be implemented from next academic year

Hyderabad: In all probability the two-year BEd and MEd course, will commence from the next academic year, Prof. L Venugopal Reddy, chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, said.

Speaking to newspersons after inauguration of EdCET (under Single Window 2) at AP Veterinary Association Hall here on Tuesday, Reddy, said, “If everything goes well, few universities may start these programmes from next year while other may start it by 2016."

He stated that 2013-2014 batch might be the last batch of students pursuing one-year courses in teaching profession if these programmes are introduced.

Reddy said that central government which has set top- most priority to education, has consulted Vice-Chancellors and top-most professors of various universities and invited them to ‘prepare a curriculum which can cover the whole range and enrich the students’ with the much-need skills and knowledge.

He appreciated girls for taking part in huge number in the counselling. This reflects ‘forward thinking’, which is needed for the country’s educational upliftment and empowerment, he said.

The counselling was held for ranks from 1-30,000 and around 42 minority colleges participated. The admissions were conducted for English, bio sciences, physics, social studies and mathematics methodologies on the day one. The counselling will be held on October 1, while for the Christian minority colleges will be conducted on October 7.
