Hyderabad: The Telangana government took a step backward after the GO it had issued on Saturday announcing rationalisation of schools created uproar among the teacher’s associations and educationists.
Telangana government school teachers who met the Minister for Education on Tuesday argued that rationalisation of schools after the academic year had begun would cause immense problems for the students. They also opposed the move to rationalise teachers and said that all such measures should be taken during summer vacations. A Narsi Reddy, president, Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF), said that the government had mooted rationalisation in order to adjust the teachers among the schools and avoid issuing a notification for filling 13,000 vacant posts. By rationalisation teachers will be adjusted among the schools and there would be no need for issuing notification for new posts, he said. The Minister for Education G Jagdish Reddy after an hour long meeting with all teachers unions said that the teachers need not get agitated and assured them that the government would issue a fresh GO making certain amendments. He also told them that no school would be closed in the state.
He appealed to the teacher’s union not to make any statements that could push the students and parents into confusion. He said the government did not intend to shut down any school in the state. The rationalisation, he said, would be confined to teachers and not schools.
TTJAC chairman Venkat Reddy told The Hans India that the JAC had no prior information about the GO and the Government had not consulted them before issuing it.
