Grand finale to Bathukamma fete today, The stage is set for a grand finale of the Bathukamma celebrations on Tank Bund along the Hussain Sagar Lake on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The stage is set for a grand finale of the Bathukamma celebrations on Tank Bund along the Hussain Sagar Lake on Thursday. The event marks the culmination of thousands of Bathukammas brought by women from various parts of the city. K Kavitha, MP and daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, would the star celebrant.
The historic event would be accompanied by much fanfare, contests, cultural events and much more. The revelry is now being celebrated by the government on a grand scale after the realisation of a dream for Telangana state.
The GHMC and HMDA have erected welcome arches and special lighting arrangements to ensure that the vibrant Telangana Culture would come alive.
Some 25,000 women will take part in the Saddula Bathukamma celebrations marking the culmination of nine-day Bathukamma festivities. Around 35 tonnes of different varieties of flowers such as marigold, cassia , Celosia , luffa, nelumbo, cucurbita , crossandra, ixora, hibiscus and lotus flowers besides green leaves will be placed at LB stadium where womenfolk would start assembling from 8 am to make impressive array of cone-shaped Bathukammas. They will be vying with one another in arranging flowers and will make about 100 big Bathukammas of around 5 feet.
A large procession with 25,000 women in traditional attire and holding Bathukammas on top of their head would begin from LB Stadium at 4 pm. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy will flag off this rally. Hyderabad Collector M K Meena will be monitoring arrangements at the LB stadium.
After the procession reaches Tank Bund around 6 pm, Governor ESL Narsimhan and his wife would release balloons in the air to commence Saddula Bathukamma celebrations. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would also take part in this programme.
Bathukammas will be placed in the middle and women of all age groups, including children, will form a circle and go round clapping and moving rhythmically singing Bathukamma songs in chorus. GHMC authorities placed multiple sound systems on the Tank Bund stretch to ensure devotional songs filled the air all evening.
The government has invited sports personalities Jwala Gutta, Y Soundarya besides Mount Everest conqueror Malavath Poorna for Thursday’s programme.
Colurful illuminations and laser arrangements were made on the entire Tank Bund stretch. The police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure safety of the participants. A huge contingent of about 3000 police force was being deployed and 100 CCTV cameras and 300 video cameras would be used to monitor the programme. Traffic on Tank Bund will not be allowed from 4 pm on Thursday to 11.30 pm.
