Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government, which is launching power for all in the State from Thursday, has appealed to the people to adopt power saving methods and extend cooperation with the efforts of the government to see that this scheme becomes a great success.
In an open letter to the people of the State, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the government, since it came to power, succeeded in reducing the gap between demand and supply from 22 MU to almost zero level and was now geared up to implement the power for all scheme.
Referring to the call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that saving power was a big service to the nation, Naidu said the solution for overcoming power shortage was not just generating more power but also making conscious effort to save energy. One unit of power saved would be equal to two units generated, Naidu said.
He informed the Centre has expressed concern over 14 per cent transmission and distribution losses and wanted that the States to bring it down to nine per cent. In view of this, Naidu said the State government has issued strict instructions to the power utilities to take necessary measures. The government would spend Rs 54,332 crore in next five years for development of power sector. The government has also entered into an MoU with public sector companies to supply power for all. This would cost the government Rs 88,000 crore. Of this the State would bear the expenditure to the extent of Rs 38,614 crore and the Centre Rs 15,718 crore. Government has also decided to fix ISI mark to 13 lakh pumpsets in the State, Naidu explained.
Naidu said the government would implement demand side management based efficient lighting programme and provide Rs 400 worth LED bulbs for Rs 10 through Self Help Groups. This programme would be launched first in Guntur district.
The Chief Minister said if proper measures to save energy were taken then there was scope to save 8,000 MU of power and about Rs 4,000 crore could be saved.
