Mumbai : In a lacklustre trade, the Sensex was down 63 points at 26,568 and Nifty slipped 19 points at 7,945. The markets are close on October 2 & 3 on account of Gandhi Jayanthi and Dussehra.

Brokers say that the profit-booking and cautious approach by participants ahead of a long week-end market sentiments. Markets reopen for trading on Tuesday. As per the provisional data released by the stock exchanges, foreign portfolio investors have sold shares to the tune of Rs 485.93 crore on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the stocks of oil and gas companies came under selling pressure, as RIL fell by 1.96 per cent, ONGC by 1.58 per cent and Gail 2.27 per cent.

On the other hand, the IT stocks led by Infosys, TCS and Wipro gained, after rupee fell to seven-month low against the dollar. Sectorwise, the O&G index lost 1.55 per cent, FMCG by 1.26 per cent, Consumer Durables by 0.85 per cent and Banking index closed 0.44 per cent lower. The broader markets also closed in red as the midcap and smallcap indices down by 0.2 to 0.4 per cent.
