25 kg rice, other commodities to citizens in Visakhapatnam
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the people in the cyclone-affected areas can draw relief package of 25 kgs of rice, dal, oil, sugar, potatoes, onions and salt from their respective Fair Price shops.

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the people in the cyclone-affected areas can draw relief package of 25 kgs of rice, dal, oil, sugar, potatoes, onions and salt from their respective Fair Price shops.
Naidu reacted sharply at a media conference here on Sunday, when he was appraised that most of the FP dealers were not distributing the relief packages stating that they had not yet received the material. A pamphlet was released to educate the people about the packages, he said and added that it was also decided to display notice boards at all the FP shops giving full details of the relief material supplied to each fair price shop, so that the people can demand rice and other essential commodities to be distributed free of cost.
He warned of stringent action against dealers if they failed to distribute relief material. He appealed to the dealers not to indulge in any type of malpractice or hoarding of stocks as the public are in a deep crisis and distribute the material to all the cardholders.
The distribution system would also be monitored by the Janma Bhoomi Committees formed in addition to the Civil Supply Officials.
Recollecting the last Sunday’s cyclone fury, the Chief Minister said that he was totally disturbed to see the beautiful city turned into desert on the Day-1 with no power and water supply besides crumbling of all communication networks and they were all in dilemma from where and how to start the relief work.
By alerting all the district administrations, officers and employees of Municipal Corporation and EPDCL and by deploying the entire government machinery to Visakhapatnam city, water and power supply was restored to 80 per cent of the city and arrangements were being made for supplying candles to the areas where the power supply had not yet been restored.
However, the restoration work of power, lifting of garbage, tree branches and waste materials is going on a brisk pace, he added.
“Today evening, I am leaving for Hyderabad to attend to an important function and meanwhile, Ministers Kamineni Srinivasa Rao, Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Paritala Sunitha, government advisor Parakala Prabhakar would monitor the relief work in my absence. I will return again on October 23 to attend the candle rally,” he added.
He thanked the people of north coastal Andhra districts for showing utmost restraint, belief, trust, faith and confidence in co-operating with the TDP Government in taking up relief and rescue operation.
