Warangal: A classical dancer from Warangal district K Himansee Choudary has won prestigious Gopikrishna National Award for the year 2014.

She won the award for her prowess in Kuchipudi dance at the 59th All India Dance Competition organised at Bhilai, a city in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh. Nrithyathi Kalakshetram of Bhilai and All India Artist Association of Simla jointly organised the event recently.

Himansee Choudary is the youngest classical dancer from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to win Gopikrishna National Award in seniors division. She is trained by noted classical Dance Master B Sudhir Rao. In juniors division, PV Sirichandana won first prize while Margam Vaishnavi won Jury Award. In sub-seniors division, K Arohi Reddy won first prize in the dance competition. All the above dancers who won prizes are students of Sri Sadguru Sivananda Nrutyala dance school here.

About 1000 classical dancers from across the country took part in the event. Cinema artiste Rohithashva Gour, classical dance teacher from Kerala Anupama Mohan and others attended the awards presentation ceremony held on October 17.
