Hyderabad: Telangana government is likely to include Self Help Groups (SHGs) in its ambitious Drinking Water Grid project. Meanwhile, Gujarat government has come forward to extend technical help in successful completion of this project in Telangana.

Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, during his second day programme as part of two-day tour to Gujarat, held discussions with senior officials and engineers in this regard besides making a field visit to Novada pumping station. He was amazed to know that 8 tmc of water was being supplied from that station to 38 towns and 2,325 villages.Further, KTR lauded women who were looking after maintenance and supply of water to different villages as part of this scheme. He expressed interest to employ SGHs in drinking water project in Telangana.

Stating that he got to know various aspects relating to water grid project after visiting Gujarat, KTR said this would stand him in good stead to face any type of bottlenecks that government might encounter in Telangana. He directed Rural Water Supply officials, who accompanied him during this visit, to submit a detailed report about water grid system of Gujarat and how it could be useful in context of Telangana state.
