Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated State-level offices in Vijayawada, the new capital of the State.

The State Capital Control room, which was opened in the existing police control room would receive telephone calls dialled for 100 and distribute the information to the respective wings in the State. Earlier, the control room was at Hyderabad and all calls made to 100 were received first in Hyderabad and were diverted to other places. The calls dialled to 100 would now be routed through the new control room delinking the Hyderabad connection, said the city police commissioner A B Venkateswara Rao.

The city police made arrangements to receive all calls and route them to the respective wings of the department. The control room has three special computers that would receive and record the information from the calls made to 100.


The Chief Minister also formally launched the new initiative of the city police, FIR at door step vehicle. The city police would supply a copy of the FIR to the complainants. The city, after being named as the capital of the Andhra Pradesh, already has camp offices for some Ministers, including the Minister for Irrigation and Minister for Health. The other Ministers too were asked to shift their camp offices to Vijayawada and they were expected to open to do so after Diwali.

Naidu insists on public-friendly policing
Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu on Tuesday announced setting up of a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore for the welfare of police. The corpus fund is intended to extend help to the bereaved family members so of the police personnel.

Addressing a meeting, organised on the occasion of police commemoration day here, urged the police to earn the trust of people and asked the personnel to maintain dignity and professional demeanour. He hoped that police would set an example to other states. He asked the police to employ technology for investigating crimes and thus improve their functioning.

The Chief Minister said the people adored the police and children would dream of becoming police. The police should change the way they dealt with the people and the terminology they used, he said.

He felt that technology would enable better policing and make the department strong. With it, loss of life during anti-extremist operations can be reduced.

Police were once employed as mere security guards for the political leaders at their residence and offices. Late N T Rama Rao played the role of police officer in the films Kondaveeti Simham and Nippulanti Manishi and they enhanced the stature of police. After becoming Chief Minister, he brought about reforms for the welfare of police, said Naidu. Chief Minister asked the department officials to encourage community policing and utilise youth for policing that would help them to become socially responsible citizens.
