No more India-Windies bilateral tours: BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday delivered the ultimate sucker-punch, leaving the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in total disarray.

Hyderabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday delivered the ultimate sucker-punch, leaving the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in total disarray. Playing the wronged Big Brother to the tee, the Board’s almost 90-minute emergency meeting of the Working Committee held at a city hotel here on Tuesday afternoon, resolved to take several steps in the wake of the mid-series walkout by the West Indian team.
The discussion revolved around only two themes – the possible action against the visiting cricketers who ‘ditched’ every fan and their own government and the finalisation of the scheduled five-match OD series by Sri Lanka. Although, there was no formal media conference, most of the members are believed to have impressed upon the committee the need to act tough to send across a stern message to the cricketing world.
Consequently, the Board decided “to initiate legal procedures against their West Indian counterparts for the abrupt cancellation of the tour and causing a loss of nearly Rs 400 crore.” Most of the revenue was from broadcasters and gate collections, which now have to be repaid.
According to a brief release issued soon after the meeting, chaired by Interim President N Shivlal Yadav and attended among others by Secretary Sanjay Patel and N Srinivasan, resolved to “suspend all bilateral tours between BCCI and WICB with immediate effect.” However, there was no mention of any time-frame for the same.
Meanwhile, hailing Sri Lanka Cricket for its spontaneous acceptance of the offer of coming over for an ODI series, Sanjay Patel said that the series would commence on November 2.
Respecting the sentiments of the island-nation and as a thanksgiving gesture, India will tour Sri Lanka for a full tour (its first in four years) between July and August next.
Although the dates for the ODI series are yet to be finalised the venues will be Cuttack, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
