Kursura Museum which was ravaged by Hudhud cyclone
The VUDA authorities are taking steps to reopen the museum for visitors as soon as possible, since it is a big attraction not only for city residents, but also people from the State and the country. The Eastern Naval Command officials are also pursuing all possibilities. It is likely to be opened only next month.

The cyclone washed away the museum’s entire premises, causing collapse of 275-metre protection wall. Trees grown along the wall crashed. Submarine parts such as torpedo control units, engine oil pooler and others, exhibited on the seaside, were displaced by gales. Electrical lines, poles, Kursura name boards, display boards vanished. The ticket-issuing counter disappeared, while computers were completely damaged.

With continuous efforts since three days, seven guides, along with security guards and maintenance staff, removed the garbage, crashed trees and stones from the premises. Visitors are likely to be allowed after the power supply is restored and repair work is completed. The VUDA authorities are estimating the loss. A preliminary estimation of Rs.2.5 crore has been made for taking up repairs.
