Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to give a new look to the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) by launching the TRIGP (Telangana Rural Inclusive Growth Project) with a new name.

A decision to rename the project as ‘Telangana Palle Pragathi’ was taken by the State Panchayat Raj and IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao at the Executive Council (EC) meeting of the SERP, which he chaired at his chambers on Wednesday. The scheme will be launched in January next.

The EC meeting was the first-ever after the formation of Telangana State and KTR lauded the good work being done by the SERP. The project will be implemented on a pilot basis with the help of World Bank, in 1,500 villages across 150 mandals in ten districts of the State.

Kiosks called One-Stop Shops (OSS) will be set up in these villages, to execute common citizen services like disbursal of pensions and wages of the National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) scheme. SERP staff will offer these services along with the services envisaged by the government under the e-panchayat system.

It may be mentioned here that KTR had recently returned from Gujarat where he studied the water grid project and the e-panchayat system there.

A salient feature of the OSS will be that they will be manned exclusively by women. KTR took this decision in tune with one of the government’s priorities, empowerment of women. They will be called “Village Computer Entrepreneurs”.

The one-stop shops will issue various certificates and manage cash for the disbursal of pensions. A 36-column card will be issued to pensioners in the categories of old-age, widows and physically handicapped categories.

This would greatly help the cause of transparency, KTR said in the meeting. A toll-free number will also be provided in the card, so that beneficiaries can contact officials in case of non-receipt of pension.
