Srikakulam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday promised that fishermen areas would be developed as smart villages by allocating more funds. He said each selected village would be allotted up to Rs 9 crore to build a better infrastructure to protect fishermen and other villagers during natural calamities. He made a surprise visit to Kunduvanipeta under Srikakulam mandal.

Addressing a public meeting, he listed out a series of measures taken to provide immediate relief to Hudhud victims. The government would provide a best package to the fishermen. Each family was given 50 kg rice, other essential goods and kerosene. Each fishermen, who had lost boats, would be given Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 for nets, he said.

He assured the fishermen that their villages would be converted into smart places within a year. Cement roads would be laid along the coastal belt and drainage system would be built, he said. Apart from it, well-designed and gale-proof houses would be built for fishermen by October next year, he said.

He was accompanied by Labour Minister K Atchannaidu, Srikakulam MP K Rammohan, Srikakulam Collector Gaurav Uppal and others.
