Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy, along with Additional Commissioner Swati Lakra, addresses media persons at the launch of Hyderabad: The city police on Friday launched 100 ‘She Teams’ as part of cracking the whip on eve-teasers and stalkers in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said 100 ‘She Teams’ – each consisting of five women cops – were launched under direct supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT) Swati Lakra.

As a part of this exercise, the teams would be deployed at places like bus stands, women colleges and hostels. Stalkers would be identified and taken to the CCS police station. Counselling would be done along with stalkers’ family members in police station. An activity sheet will be prepared and kept in central database and their activities would be monitored on daily basis. Stringent action would be initiated if they repeated the offence again, the CP warned.

“She Teams would swing into action immediately after receiving calls, in addition to action on their own.

Dial 100 would also act as the helpline to lodge all complaints by the victims in this regard,” Reddy said, adding that awareness programmes would be conducted throughout the city for women to come out openly and inform police about harassment.

Public transport drivers and conductors have been asked either to inform “Dial 100” or take the vehicle to the nearest police station on complaints of teasing. MMTS train staff have also been made aware of the drive.

According to the Commissioner, all the persons arrested by “She Teams” would be media-briefed. It is also decided to send a proposal to the government to enact a new law on eve-teasing on the lines of the AP Anti-Ragging Act and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Eve-Teasing Acts.
