T TDP members demand all-party meet to discuss power shortage

Hyderabad: Power punch dialogues between TS government and Andhra Pradesh reached a peak on Saturday, a day after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao called his counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu a "cheat".

The Media Advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Parkala Prabhakar, said that TS Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was misleading the people of the state to cover up his failures. He said KCR had on Friday quoted GO 69 that was issued during TDP regime in 1996 wherein it was said that power could be generated up to 834 feet of minimum draw down level (MDDL). At that time the state was facing acute drought conditions and following repeated demand from the opposition the government had issued that GO. But after the Congress came to power in 2003 the then government led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had issued another GO No 107 according to which the MDDL level was fixed at 854 feet and incidentally at that time the present TS irrigation minister T Harish Rao was a member of the state cabinet. KCR conveniently ignored this GO, he said.

AP Deputy Chief Minister N Chinnarajappa, Minister for irrigation Devineni Umamaheswar Rao and HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that KCR had mastered the art of twisting the issues and making wrong statements to cover up his failures. Uma said that Naidu had participated in a dharna on Prakasam Barrage in December 2013 to highlight the government's failure in protecting the rights of the State over the surplus Krishna water and not on power generation from Srisailam.

AP Deputy Chief Minister accepted KCR's challenge for a debate on the sharing of Krishna river water, Srinivasa Rao said KCR's inefficiency was responsible for the electricity shortage in Telangana. "You can't always cheat people. The truth will prevail," he said.

TTDP leaders E Dayakar Rao and A Revanth Reddy demanded that KCR convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue. Revanth Reddy said that KCR had turned down a proposal to buy power from Lanco group.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu formed a task force consisting of TDP, BJP and YSRCP MPs from the state to resolve the present power crisis between the two states. Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapthi Raju would be the chairman of the committee

On the other hand Telangana IT and Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao and Irrigation minister T Harish Rao reiterated that the TS government would not stop power generation from Srisailam at any cost.
