Karimnagar: The Karimnagar Central Crime Station police cracked the mystery behind the burglary of Panchaloha idols that took place four-and-a half years ago from a Ramalayam in Potugal village of Mustabad mandal in the district on Saturday by arresting the gang members. The burglary took place on January 21, 2010, and police arrested Burra Sayulu and recovered the panchaloha idols of Sri Rama, Sitadevi, Lakshmana and Godadevi (Andalamma) worth Rs 2 crore.
According to reports, the other two members of the gang Bammanagari Tirupati and Yellaiah were already dead. The three members of the gang after stealing the idols, decided to keep them in the house of Burra Sayulu as they could not sell them to anyone. After a few days, the other two member of the gang died.
After their death, Sayulu decided to hide the panchaloha idols in his house as he was scared to sell them. The police who got a tip off that Sayulu was planning to sell the idols, decided to nab him. A team of CCS police led by Inspector of Police Madhavi and Sub-Inspectors, Upender, Srujan Reddy and constable Rajesh raided the residence of Sayulu and took him into custody. The Additional District Superintendent of Police B Janardhan lauded the efforts of the CCS police in arresting the culprit.
