‘Sangeeta Mahamahopadhyaya’ Duddu Seetharama Sastry needs no introduction. He made great contribution to Carnatic music and his krithis, javalis and pada varnams are popular. Sri Kartikeya Gana Sabha organised a concert in his memory, where noted musician Duddu Radhika introduced the audience to the krithis by known and unknown vaggeyakaras.

Duddu Radhika opened her concert with “Sami Raademi” (Sankarabharanam) a pleasing varnam. Then she moved onto Vinayaka Stuthi, “Vinayakam”(Saranga ) of Hari Nagabhushanam and “Saaradaa Sadaa” (Khamas) of Adibhatla Narayanadasu and rendered them with the lyrical beauty intact.

She moved on to sub-main item “Nannu Brova Raveraa” (Sahana) of Duddu Seetharama Sastry and presented it with a good ragaalapana and swarkalpana. She selected another best work of Duddu Seetharama Sastry, “Dayajooparaa Daasaradhey” (Dharmavathi), embellishing the krithi with good ragaalapana and swartakalpana. Neraval at “Kanulaaara Joochi” was melodiously executed and it was received with a warm applause by the audience. She then presented “Nee Paadambu Taakinantha” (Kedaragoula), Emi Balkeney (Thodi) of Adibhatla and Duddu respectively. She concluded with Hindola raga thillana of Vinjamuri Varada Raja Iyengar.

It was a good attempt to promote Telugu Vaggeyakara Saathityam but endeavours like these requires thorough preparation. However, the attempt by Sri Karthikeya Gana Sabha has to be lauded.
