Talking about the initiative, Mukesh Patney, business head—baby care, The Himalaya Drug Company, said, “Parenting is one of the world’s toughest jobs but also the most rewarding. As a brand, we would like to make the journey less stressful for parents. Even the most informed parents can feel on the edge. These programmes are a great way to meet experts and other parents, and discuss the joys and challenges of parenting.”

The programme encourages both mothers and fathers to attend the talk.

“Fathers today are equally hands-on in raising their baby. The programme guides them on the different aspects of parenting, while appreciating their involvement,” Patney added.

The programme saw about 35 participating fathers and mothers who were addressed by noted paediatrician from the city Dr Markandeyulu (MBBS-DCH), along with Dr Jayashree Keshav, senior manager, scientific publications, The Himalaya Drug Company, who is also an Ayurveda expert.

Dr Jayashree addressed a common concern amongst parents – diaper rash.

“Our research shows that an estimated 25– 65 per cent of diaper wearing infants are affected by diaper dermatitis, making it one of the most common skin conditions in babies. One of the reasons for diaper rash is poor quality diapers. Parents need to look for diapers that are herbal, hypoallergenic and clinically tested to reduce the activity of harmful enzymes, inhibit the growth of microbes and thereby prevent diaper rash,” she said.

The programme also had a fun contest called ‘Nappy Mein Happy’, where fathers were encouraged to change their babies’ diapers. The father who changed the diaper in the least amount of time won a Himalaya goodie bag.
