Apple CEO, Tim Cook has reportedly revealed that the tech giant stopped selling its iPod Classic music player because it no longer had access to the components required to build the device.

Although sales for the product had fallen, Cook said that "redesigning" the player would have been a 'massive' task and not cost-effective as more and more consumers are now turning towards smartphones or the iPod Touch , reported The Independent.

The iPod's 1.8-inch hard drive was generally supplied by Toshiba in Japan. The last generation of the device used 160 GB drive that allowed music fans to carry up to 40,000 songs in their pocket.
