Days after the corporation workers decked up the compound walls alongside the footpaths with herbs, the officials are planning to install Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) toilets every half-a-kilometre.

FRP toilets at Old Pension Office, Masab Tank

Inspired by the success of the pilot project at the Old Pension Office, Masab Tank, the corporation is keen on setting up 1000 green toilets in the city.

Commenting about the initiative, Commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “Public urination is a huge problem in the city and these green toilets are an apt solution. In the pilot project phase we installed seven toilets and 20 more are ready. The target is to install 50 toilets by the end of November.”

These green toilets were made by the engineering students of IIT Madras and they do not require water. The commissioner also informed that there will be separate toilets for women. Another advantage of these FRP toilets is that it can easily be moved from one place to another and it hardly occupies any space.
