Following the animal adoption scheme which started in the Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) in 2002, the Inner Wheel Club of Secunderabad adopted 5 peacocks for a period of one year.

Following the animal adoption scheme which started in the Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) in 2002, the Inner Wheel Club of Secunderabad adopted 5 peacocks for a period of one year.

The president Rita Mathur along with other club members visited the NZP and adopted the birds after handing over a cheque to the curator of NZP BNN Murthy. Murthy thanked the Inner Wheel Club for showing keen interest in wildlife conservation by participating in the adoption scheme for the consecutive third year.

Under the adoption scheme, individuals, institutions, corporates and clubs are free to adopt animals in the zoo by paying the amount fixed by the zoo authorities for upkeep, maintain them in the zoo for a period of one year.

The adoption rate of each animal is worked out depending on the requirement of feed, medical care, upkeep of each animal. The amount paid towards the adoption is deposited in the zoo account in the nationalised bank and is utilised for feeding and maintaining the adopted animal for specific period.
