Theatre lovers of the city were in for a visual treat. ‘The Mother’, a play depicting the life of Mother Teresa, was staged at Fr Devaiah Auditorium in the city on Thursday and mesmerised the audience.

Amruthavani Regional Communication Centre produced the play with a budget of Rs 50 lakh. The script for the play was based on the life of Mother Teresa and was written by film writer Akella Satyanarayana. Its enlivening music was composed by Tollywood music director Anup Rubens and the songs were penned by Suddala Ashok Teja. Noted television and film actors portrayed prominent roles. The high technical values, lighting and sound effects were in keeping with the amount spent on the production.

One was definitely in awe of the backdrops. Some of these were a railway station with a train moving in the background, the Howrah Bridge, slum dwellings, St Mary’s School and a chapel.

Fr U Bala Showry, director of the play, said, “This attempt is to provide an alternative entertainment to the public with quality input. The play was produced on par with international theatre shows in technical excellence. It will definitely leave an impact on every viewer.”

Sound and lighting in-charge VS Biju said, “It was highly difficult to put up. But the final result was extremely pleasing. We have worked hard to bring out the periodic effect through lighting. Adjusting surround sound to verbal theatre is also a major task to sync with the play.’’

About 2,000 schoolchildren witnessed the first show of the play. It will be staged at the auditorium at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm today.
