Sircilla (Karimnagar): The Civil Supplies Commissioner C Parthasarathy said the State government was purchasing paddy by setting up paddy procurement centres through Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) in order to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers.

Parthasarathy visited a paddy procurement centre at Gopalaraopally village in Sircilla mandal on Friday. On the occasion, he spoke to women and asked them how many quintals of paddy was being brought to the procurement centre.

The Civil Supplies Commissioner advised the officials to prepare estimates first, so that they may not face any hurdles while purchasing paddy from farmers. He instructed officials to purchase paddy from farmers at MSP of Rs 1,400 at paddy procurement centres. He advised the farmers to bring their paddy to procurement centres after ensuring that moisture content in paddy was less than 17 per cent. He directed the officials to create awareness about moisture content in paddy among farmers.

Parthasarathy said payment to paddy farmers were being deposited in their accounts online method. He stated that paddy procurement would begin in Peddapalli and Jagtial divisions from November second week.

“So far, 30,000 metric tonnes of paddy was procured in the district at the support price,” he added. Joint Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed, District Supply Officer Chandra Prakash and other officials were present.
