After a considerable time-off from Bollywood music, singer Mohit Chauhan is back with a track for #No 1 Yaari, that he believes captures the soul and essence of having a close group of friends, who are part of your journey through life.

“It weaves an interesting story of growing up, fun and mischievous moments and the strong bond shared by that inner circle of friends especially in today’s tumultuous times,” he says.

Talking about how he bagged the song Aisi Waisi Dosti, he adds, “Composer Rajiv Bhalla called me one day, and made the offer. When I heard this song and the lyrics for the first time, it instantly gave me a sense of comfort and ease.

Right from the lyrics and the song to the tuning of guitar, everything was very easy and identifiable. The lyrics of this song, written by Sonal Dabral are very beautiful and reminded me of my old Himachal days.”

In fact, Mohit liked the song so much that he called it a tribute to his friends too. “It is a reminder and a tribute to my own buddies who have been a part of my journey and who have been instrumental in creating fond memories of our brotherhood.

The film has sequences that remind me of our band and the fun that we had creating music together,” he says. While singing is a passion no matter what, there are certain actors; Mohit believes his voice is better suited for. “I feel my voice suits Ranbir Kapoor best.

Although it did look completely in sync even when I sang Saans…. for Shah Rukh Khan in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. One of my most favourite songs, Masakkali was picturised on Abhishek Bachchan and that turned out well too. But it is my dream to sing for Mr Bachchan someday. I hope that comes true soon.”

While his Bollywood songs have been successful too, what has stayed with us is his album songs such as Dooba Dooba, we tell him. Will we get to hear more of that stuff? “I’m working on my solo album which will be releasing in 2015.

I’m still composing songs for the same. Apart from it, there are a few Bollywood projects with Imtiaz Ali, A.R. Rahman etc.,” he adds.

Lastly, like a bunch of his contemporaries (Mika Singh, Shaan, and Hard Kaur) who’ve taken to acting after singing, does he plan to make the shift too? “Actually a few people have approached me. I am ready, but I need a good script.

The role must be interesting and challenging enough for me to take up. Before becoming a professional music artiste, I used to do a lot of theatre in college, so it isn’t alien territory,” he tells us.
