Vijayawada: Stage is set for the State-level meeting of the Telugu Desam Party in the city on Thursday. The ‘A’ Convention Center in the city has been spruced up for the event, which is being held for the first time after the party came to power in Andhra Pradesh.

Party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will chair the meeting. The meeting is likely last the entire day. Naidu is scheduled to arrive at Gannavaram airport in the morning and leave the city in the evening.

The Telugu Desam is the only party which does not have office in the city. The party was unable find a suitable place to house its own office. Though attempts were made in the past, they could not succeed till date and the office continued to have been housed in private buildings for the past three decades.

Even the Bharatiya Janata Party has its office in its own building at Suryaraopet area. In addition to this, the party hired an independent building for its State office.

The Congress has its own office – Andhra Rathna Bhavan – at Governorpet area, while the Left parties have their own buildings for the city and district offices. The CPI and the CPI-M too have their State level offices in the city. The Congress is planning to renovate the Andhra Rathna Bhavan to accommodate the State and the city office.

The TDP Krishna district office has been functioning from a private site near Swaraj Maidan, while its city office has been shifted to Kesineni Bhavan, the building owned by party MP Kesineni Srinivas.

The leaders have been trying to find a suitable place to house the party office, but in vain. With the bifurcation, the party leaders now want a suitable place to have a building to house the office.
