New Delhi: Heavy security is being put in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two rallies in Jharkhand on Friday.
PM Modi, who returned from a three-nation tour, will fly to poll-bound Jharkhand on Friday to take part in election campaign.
He is scheduled to hold rallies at Daltonganj and Chandwa in Palamu district.
However, a report of the Intelligence Bureau claims the Naxals in collusion with the outlawed Indian Mujahideen terror group may target the prime minister there.
The IB report says the Naxals and IM, in a joint operation, may target the PM at the rally grounds or on the roads leading up to the venues.
The extremists could plant mines on the corridor where the PM is expected to travel to reach rally venues.
It may be noted that Palamu is one of the most Naxal-infested districts of Jharkhand.
The state police are on the lookout for the unidentified user of a mobile phone number used recently to SMS a death threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
‘Modi ko mar do (Kill Modi),’ read the text received by Ranchi resident Amresh Kumar, who immediately reported it to the police.
Security agencies say the PM is probably on the hit-list of left-wing Maoist extremists in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar said that, as of now, the text seemed to be a prank. “Prima facie, it seems to be the handiwork of some miscreants. But anyhow, the police is not taking it lightly as the prime minister’s safety is our priority,” he added.
“We are trying to trace the number and will be able to reveal information only after a thorough investigation.”
Modi’s visit to Sita's birth place in Nepal cancelled
New Delhi: Modi's visit to Janakpur, the revered Hindu religious site in Nepal, Sita's birth place, has been cancelled due to opposition by some political parties peeved over their non-inclusion in the preparatory committee, sources said.
Modi will be leaving on November 25 to attend the 18th SAARC Summit in Kathmandu on November 26-27.
"I was informed by the Foreign Ministry here about the cancellation of Modi's visit to the religious site," said Bimalendra Nidhi, Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
