Hyderabad: A unilateral GO by the Telangana State government to rename the minority institutions has come under fire within days after the differences in conducting the intermediate board examinations between the two Telugu-speaking States have cropped up.
Raising objection to the GO, Andhra Pradesh Minority Welfare Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the issue of a GO to rename minority institution was in violation of AP Reorganisation Act-2014.
Addressing a press conference late in the evening, he said out of 11 minority institutions, two were already bifurcated and remaining nine were yet to be divided as per the Act. However, without consulting the AP government, the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is holding the minority welfare, had gone ahead issuing a GO unilaterally, he said.
Asking for a mutual discussion on the subject keeping in view of the minorities living in both the States, he said it would be prudent on the part of TS to sort out the issue, instead of going ahead unilaterally.
Raghunatha Reddy said Wakf Tribunal and AP State Minorities Commission were not figured out in any of the schedules stipulated for the division of institutions in the Reorganisataion Act. But, seven institutions like Urdu Academy and others were figured either in the schedule 9 or 10 of the Act. These institutions should be divided with mutual consultation of both the States, he added.
Further, encroachment of thousands of acres of Wakf land in AP and TS was an issue, besides division of assets. Without taking cognizance of all the issues, going ahead with unilateral decision would be an utter disregard to the Act, he pointed out.
The Minister to resolve the issue has asked the KCR to convene a meeting for which he along with the officials of the AP minorities welfare department would attend.
