Two KPLT militants killed in Assam gun battle
Two hardcore militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were killed and another was nabbed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday, police said.
Guwahati: Two hardcore militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were killed and another was nabbed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday, police said.
According to reports, the encounter took place at Rongtaru area under Rongmongway police station in the hill district. Following a tip off, a joint team of police and army had launched operation at the remote area, where the militant duo was killed in encounter.
“When troops reached the area, the militants started fire targeting to the security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets,” Karbi Anglong SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said.
Two militants were killed on spot and another was nabbed. Security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pistol, several rounds of live ammunition in possession from slain militants, who are yet to be identified.
KPLT is active in Karbi Anglong and Nagaon district.
