High-speed train will reach Agra from Delhi in 105 minutes

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of introducing high-speed trains will soon become a reality when the Gatiman Express rolls between capital with the Taj city of Agra in 105 minutes.

The train’s name has been chosen because of its capability of running at 160 km per hour speed, the maximum till date in Indian Railways, a senior Railway Ministry official had said. The first high speed service is considered to be a boon for tourists visiting the city of Taj Mahal.

An official statement in Delhi confirmed that the coaches for Gatiman Express had reached New Delhi from Kapurthala in Punjab.

The railway board and officials had conducted two successful trials on Delhi-Agra section at a speed of 160 kilometre and covered the 200 km distance in 99 minutes a few months ago.

The Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, which had manufactured 17 coaches of the train, include three executive chair cars, twelve chair cars and two power cars. RCF General Manager Pramod Kumar said that the Railway Ministry would decide the timings and date when to run the high-speed train on Delhi-Agra section.
