In a move that would have drastic impact on the results of assembly polls, dozens of the political big wigs changed their parties in the state of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of assembly polls. The five phased polling in the state will start from 25th November and the results will be declared on 23rd December.

The recent in the party changing phenomenon is Dr Mehboob Baig, the Ex MP of National conference who joined People’s Democratic Party on 18th November. Beg, 63 the son of Mirza Afzal Baig a close aide of former Chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, joined hands with PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Syeed in campaigning for the party in assembly elections.

On November 6, Ajatshatru Singh National conference leader, MLC and the son of Congress leader Karan Singh joined Bhartia Janta Party. In the same month Mohammad Amin Khan Ex District President Kupwara Congress joined People’s Conference led Sajjad Gani Lone and Habibullah Bhat a PDP fanatic and the son of Ex MLA Lolab Saifullah Bhat joined the same party.

From Omar Abdullah’s town, the former Chief Secretary and National Conference Senior Leader Sheikh Gulam Rasool resigned from the party and days after joined People’s Democratic Party. On the joining function, Sheikh Gulam Rasool while addressing a press conference blamed the National Conference government of strengthening the instruments of oppression and terror in the state.

In October, Congress leader and Ex Deputy Chief Minister of the state Mangat Ram Sharma resigned from the party and Joined PDP and in the same month Mohammad Yousuf Bhat a National Conference worker and a close confidant of Farooq Abdullah joined PDP as well.

In August, National Conference Leader and Ex MP Abdul Rasheed Shaheen joined Awami National Conference, the party led by Khalida Shah.

In Jammu region, Choudary Talib Hussain the Ex MP of National Conference left the party months back and joined Bhartia Janta Party and in the same month Congress Ex MP Lal Singh quit the party and joined BJP as well.

PDP leader and MLA Rajpora Syed Bashir quit the party after he was denied mandate when Ex Jammu and Kashmir Bank Chairman Dr Haseeb Drabu was offered mandate by the party. Syed Bashir has decided to contest the elections as an independent candidate from Rajpora constituency.
