Telangana Chief Minister notices irregularities in tender process for supplying solar pump sets to agriculture sector in the State

Hyderabad: In a significant move, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has cancelled Non Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NEDCAP) tenders for installation of solar pump sets to agriculture bores in Telangana.

This decision was taken due to large-scale irregularities in tender process in which even government officials were involved, a press release issued by CMO stated.

KCR directed Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma to take action against erring officials. Meanwhile, a committee comprising senior IAS officers Pradeep Chandra, Nagireddy, SK Joshi and Poonam Malakondaiah was formed to look into the issue. It was further decided to wait until the committee submits its report in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that a total of 68 companies participated in bids after NEDCAP invited tenders for solar pump sets to farmers. Almost 47 financial bids got eligibility. One private company quoted rates of Rs 4.90 lakh for each 5HP pump set and Rs 3.20 lakh for each 3HP pump set which were lowest among all bids.

The highest quotation received for 5HP pump set was 6.90 lakhs. NEDCAP asked remaining 46 companies to provide pump sets at this rate. One week time was given but companies did not come forward. The government noticed serious irregularities in NEDCAP tenders and realised that private companies quoted highest rates for solar pump sets when compared to market rates.

The market rates for 5 HP pump set is Rs 3.10 lakh (least quoted price was Rs 4.9 lakh) while that of 3 HP
was 1.40 lakh (least quoted price was Rs 3.2 lakh).
