Hyderabad: The State government faced some embarrassing moments on Monday in State Assembly as the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislators led by Akbaruddin Owaisi staged a walkout protesting against ill-treatment meted out to allies by the ruling party.

Akbaruddin Owaisi lodged a strong protest for not being allowed to speak on providing employment opportunities issue. However, Assembly Speaker S Madhusudana Chary contended that the MIM legislators were not signatories to the notice given under the Rule 344 and therefore, they were not allowed to speak. In response, Akbaruddin Owaisi said several MLAs, who were not signatories, were allowed to speak during the debate on energy crisis. Owaisi criticised the government for adopting double standards.

Intervening in the issue, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao said that a decision was taken by the Business Advisory Committee that under the Rule 344, only signatories would be allowed to speak. Stating that no such decision was taken during the BAC meeting, Akbaruddin Owaisi offered to quit from his posts if proved wrong. Later, the MIM MLAs staged a walkout from the House in protest. After staging protest, Harish Rao came out of the House and tried to pacify Akbaruddin Owaisi.
