Telangana\'s first private Unani medical college Al-Arif Unani Medical College will commence its academic year from the first week of December.
Hyderabad: Telangana's first private Unani medical college Al-Arif Unani Medical College will commence its academic year from the first week of December. The counselling for admissions into the first academic year for the BUMCET-2014 qualified 50 candidates for the convenor quota will be held on Thursday at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada.

Al-Arif Unani Medical College is the first Unani Medical College in India which has been allotted 100 seats for BUMS first year. About 50 per cent for A-category on ranking basis under convenor quota, 10 per cent B-Category, BUMCET ranking based management quota for BUMCET qualified candidates and 40 per cent C-Category management quota for those who have passed intermediate BiPC or equivalent with 50 per cent aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The last date for the registration of forms is November 29.
Moulana Syed Mohammed Arifuddin Jeelani, chairman, Al-Azizia Educational and Welfare Society - the parent body of the college, told media that the college campus is spread over five acres of land comprising hospital and college buildings, situated in an ideal location with all amenities like pleasant atmosphere laded with greenery, fully computerised and furnished out-patients and in-patients departments, exceptionally well-equipped operation theatre, spacious in-patients wards, upgraded pathological laboratory, x-ray plant, fully ventilated and spacious classrooms to accommodate more than 100 students.
According to Dr Ehsan ul Haq, Secretary - Correspondent and managing director of college, "The idea of establishment of this college evolved in the society since a long time as BUMS (five-and-a-half-year Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery) is the only professional course throughout India wherein the poor, especially Urdu medium students, after completion of 10+2 in biological science, find a ray of hope to become a doctor, a gazetted officer and hold a respectable and financially stable position in the society."
He added, "The society has left no stone unturned to establish a Unani Medical College under private sector, which was the need of the hour, and to make it a model college of the country with an intake capacity of 100 seats wherein the students should not only gain the best of Unani medical knowledge but also will be well trained in modern medicine and extensive research orientation to meet the scientific advancements of today and in future.
