Dr K Ravi Kanth released posters on Tuesday to promote awareness among public about the rise of obesity in recent times, its harmful effects, prevention and cure. The number of obese persons in the world has doubled when compared to the incidence of obesity in 1980.

About 25 lakh people have succumbed to the harmful effects of obesity in the last 15 years. According to a study of the World Health Organisation (WHO), 44 per cent of obese people are affected with diabetes, 23 per cent with heart attack and 30 per cent with cancer. Change in lifestyle, irregular routine, food and genetics cause obesity.

“Obesity can be cured through a number of ways, which can help put other disorders at bay. The incidence of diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis and high cholesterol problems is on the rise among youth due to the unhealthy lifestyle. Obesity can be controlled if proper treatment is taken,” Dr Ravi Kanth said.
