Money raining in capital region

• Politicians, film artistes make beeline to buy land
• Not less than 1,500 luxury cars zoom along the dusty roads in villages

Guntur: People from far-off places are pouring with pots of money into the capital region, consisting of three mandals – Thulluru, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri. As a result, some of the villages are virtually rolling in money. The revenue of the Stamps and Registration Department has phenomenally increased.

The real estate boom is unprecedented in these mandals. Transactions worth Rs 4,500 crore have reportedly been carried out during last 20 days. It speaks volumes of the wads of money being brought into the region to entice farmers to sell their lands.

The 29 villages identified in these three mandals for taking up land pooling scheme to build capital city are flooded with luxury cars. More than 1,500 cars are zooming along with roads in these villages, throwing dust in the faces of people. The hi-tech vehicles belonging to big shots who include politicians, film stars and industrialists. Some of the politicians, film artistes and industrialists have reportedly purchased a good extent of land at throw-away prices earlier. Later the land prices have zoomed.

While those farmers who have sold their lands are busy counting bundles of money, the Stamps and Registration Department is overwhelmed by the size of revenue increased. The revenue in the Guntur district region has registered a sudden spurt. The highest revenue in the region in the past was Rs 35 crore a month but now it recorded Rs 150 crore in just 20 days from November 1. Same is true in the case of sub-registrar office in Tadikonda where the revenue has jumped to Rs 1.40 crore a month.

There is a tailpiece to the realty boom story. The bigwigs from far-off places landed in these villages 20 days before the government announced shifting of the capital region from the vicinity of Vijayawada to Guntur region.
It means that these influential persons have the advance knowledge of shifting of capital region to Guntur district, particularly to the three mandals.
