Hyderabad: The global e-tender-cum-e-auction of red sanders by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has got huge response from across the world. The action was started on Monday and will continue up to December 1 where a total of 177 lots were being put under hammer. Addressing a joint press conference here on Tuesday, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Joseph and Additional Principal Conservator of Forests P K Jha said the tender process had been handled by the MSTC, a mini Ratna company of the Union government.

The State has 10,500 tonnes of red sanders out of which permission for auction had been given for 8,500 tonnes. On the first day of the auction on Monday, 30 lots of 862 ton red sanders from Tirupati depot had gone under hammer. The auction which was started at 12 noon on Monday had to be closed at 3 pm on the same day. However, nearly 278 bidders from within the country and abroad had pushed the auction time till 10.22 pm at night. While the A-grade red sander of 4.69 tonnes put for auction had fetched Rs 1.9 crore per ton. B grade red sanders of 78.13 tonnes had got on an average Rs 1.31 crore. Similarly, C grade red sanders of 779.18 tonnes had fetched Rs 16.51 lakh to Rs 35.16 lakh.
