National Service Scheme (NSS) programme officer Maddineni Sudhakar was awarded the Indira Gandhi NSS award by President Pranab Mukherjee recently. Sudhakar also received a cash prize of Rs 90,000, a citation and memento.

Sudhakar, whose motto is ‘to serve with love’, has been an active participant in blood donation camps and also a campaigner for the cause of blood donation, organising relief operations to people in times of natural calamities. Being an NSS volunteer he had engaged in multiple service activities. He was instrumental in inspiring as many as 4,500 persons to donate blood and in strengthening blood banks. He has donated blood 47 times so far since 1995.

He received 34 awards in social service activities at national, state, university and district level. He was also awarded as the State Level Best NSS Programme Officer and NTR Seva Puraskar. He received the NTR Seva Puraskar from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Best Citizen Award from veteran actor late Sunil Dutt was another feather in his cap. District Collector of Guntur Kantelal Dande presented him with service awards.
