Vijayawada: The State government has allocated Rs 267 crore to distribute lands to the landless Dalits, according to Minister for Social Welfare R Kishore Babu here on Wednesday.

The Minister, while addressing a meeting of the officials of the DRDA, ITDA, SC Corporation, Rural Development Departments, said the government would distribute cultivable lands to the landless Dalits.

The woman members in the beneficiaries families’ would be given registered titled deeds, he said.

He said the State government had released Rs 67 crore, while the remaining Rs 200 crore to Stree Nidhi for implementation of the scheme. The government would extend financial help at the rate of Rs 5 lakh an acre to beneficiary and it would be enhanced up to Rs 10 lakh, if needed. The government would bear 75 per cent or Rs 2 lakh, whichever is less, as subsidy per an acre, he said.

The beneficiary was required to pay the remaining amount to Stree Nidhi in installments, he said

The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) chief executive officer H Arun Kumar directed the officials to identify the beneficiaries with the help of the staff at the village level and also identify the lands to be given to the beneficiaries.

He wanted the Self Help Groups to play a key role in identifying beneficiaries and suitable lands under the scheme.The Rural Development Department Principle Secretary S S Ravat, commissioner G Jayalakshmi, Krishna district Additional Joint Collector, B L Chennakesava Rao, project directors of the DRDA from all 13 districts and other officers were present.
