Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has succeeded in convincing the Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors to set up a truck manufacturing unit at Sri City SEZ in Chittoor district. He also impressed upon Sumitomo Corporation, a diversified business group of Japan, to help the Andhra Pradesh government in developing its new state capital as a world-class smart city.

Naidu visited Isuzu office and met with its officials. Noting that the company has 10 truck buildings plants worldwide, Isuzu vice-president Masanori Khatayama said a new plant would be set up soon in AP. He said that the company’s policy is in line with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative as well as the policy of ‘Make in Andhra Pradesh.’ He added that their new facility would be much more modern than the other 44 units across the world.

“The new production site will attract other accessories related to the automobile industry. Many suppliers will come.” Katayama said that many more Japanese firms might want to invest in Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu on Thursday explained his measures and advantages of investing in India, particularly Andhra Pradesh. “Andhra Pradesh is strategically located and is accessible to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.” Naidu said while AP is strong is technical education and has human resources, it also has a cultural similarity. “Japan and AP have Buddhism. We are going to develop Buddhist tourism circuits in our state.

This will give a fillip to tourism,” he informed. The Chief Minister added that he is planning to introduce Japanese language in one of AP’s universities. He expressed happiness over Isuzu evincing interest in skill development mission. The delegation also met Mayewaka Manufacturing Company which makes compressors. Chairman of Mayewaka Manufacturing Yoshiro Tanaka said that they are keen on working with Andhra Pradesh in establishing cold chains in the state’s mega food parks.

Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) senior vice-president Hidaeki Domichi praised Naidu as one of the most progressive leaders of India. He informed the Chief Minister that JICA is now focusing on Bangalore-Chennai Industrial Corridor and also concentrating on Krishnapatnam Node. Naidu requested JICA to set up an office in Andhra Pradesh.
