All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by banking, auto, consumer durables and capital goods sectors.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,490.71 points, was trading at 28,757.21 points (at 01.52 p.m.) in the afternoon session, up 318.30 points or 1.12 percent from the previous day's close at 28,438.91 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 28,822.37 points and a low of 28,483.99 points in the trade so far.
The S&P bankex surged by 602.48 points, auto index went up by 337.89 points, consumer durables index gained by 131.11 points and capital goods index inched up by 175.51 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) surged 109.20 points or 1.29 percent and was trading at 8,603.40 points.
