Manipal Hospitals successfully treated a rare case of heart defect- Sinus of Valsalva along with leaking of aortic valve. The persistent involvement of the medical team and the unfailing clinical excellence made this possible.

Chanti, an 18-year-old college student, who had breathing issues, was found to have a rupture of sinus of valsalva aneurysm with large sub Aortic VSD L- R shunt (a condition related to a weakened heart).

Chanti had three major problems that complicated his health, which included a hole in heart, leaking of the aortic value and aortic sinus resulting into serious complications.

The team of doctors, CTVS surgeon Dr Lokesh BM, cardiologist Dr M A Chandramohan and aneasthetist Dr Anil Kumar Karnam successfully repaired two defects (Leaking of Aortic Valve and Sinus of Valsalva) as well as replaced the valve in the same sitting.

“The case is encountered in very few patients, as rarely as one in a lakh and had to be treated immediately. We have an excellent cardiac unit with some of the best doctors. It’s through their persistence and dedication this remarkable feat was possible,” said Dr Lokesh BM.
