Relook into liquor, land scams: AP Cabinet panel
The Cabinet Subcommittee on Anti corruption, presided over by Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yenamala Ramkrishnudu met here on Tuesday and recommended the State government to review the liquor and land scams surfaced during the Congress regime.

Hyderabad: The Cabinet Subcommittee on Anti corruption, presided over by Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yenamala Ramkrishnudu met here on Tuesday and recommended the State government to review the liquor and land scams surfaced during the Congress regime.
Disclosing this at a press conference, State IT and Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the meeting had taken certain policy decisions to revive and relook into the allegations and to bring those responsible for loss of crores of rupees to the public exchequer to book.
Following this, senior Ministers in the N Kriran Kumar Reddy's Cabinet Botsa Satyanarayana and Dhramana Prasada Rao are expected to come once again under the scanner on charges of omission and commission and misuse of office. The committee also decided to recommend the government to bring necessary amendments to control the red sander smuggling in the State.
Citing that from 2002 -2014, about 11,034 cases had been filed in connection with red sander smuggling and confiscated nearly 12,029 tonnes of red sander stocks meant to illegal exports and consumption. While 6,290 vehicles were confiscated, about 15,140 persons were arrested during the period.
The Minister said this was just the officials figures, which pointed out a huge mafia kind of activity had been perpetuated over the years to run the red sander smuggling in the State. The committee had come to a view that weak laws and lower conviction rates had been further sustaining this illegal activity.
Thus, it recommended the government to bring proper enactments to strengthen the legal frame work, making felling and smuggling of red sanders a non-bailable offence with a penalty of Rs 10 lakh and jail term ranging from three to 10 years, or both, if any one proved guilty of involved in the red sander smuggling.
It also recommended the government to set up fast track courts to hear cases and deliver judgements related to the illegal felling and smuggling of red sanders in the State, the Minister said.
