Visakhapatnam: The Visakha Mahila Suraksha Samiti organised a meeting here Tuesday on the completion of two years of gang-rape and murder of Nirbhaya. “Media has a lot of effect on society with the increase on crime and assault on women,” said IES officer CS Rao. “Negative portrayal of women should be prevented. Awareness should be created and values need to be taught,” he added.

AIMSS State coordinator Ch. Prameela said though Nirbhaya Act was enacted, there was an increase in the number of crimes against women and children. Mahila Suraksha Samiti was working for protection of women,” she said.

Mr CS Rao, Nagarjuna University former Vice-Chancellor Prof. V Bala Mohan Das, Andhra University former professor K Malaya Vasini and Ms Prameela paid tributes to Nirbhaya and gave suggestions for women to protect themselves.

Visakha Mahila Suraksha Samiti members C Durga Sharada, M Shaila Bhavani, G Suresh Kumar, P Rajesh Kumar, scholars and teachers participated.
