Union Health Ministry team to inspect land

Mangalagiri (Guntur): A four-member high-level committee of the Union Ministry of Health is scheduled to visit Mangalagiri town on Saturday to inspect land for establishing All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) institute. The committee, comprising Raipur AIIMS Superintendent Ajay Dany, its Superintendent Engineer M Rastogi, senior architect Rajiv Kanna Vijaya and Union Ministry of Health Under-Secretary B L Meena, will inspect the land earmarked for the institute proposed to be instituted in Mangalgairi. The committee will examine whether the land is suitable for such a prestigious institute.

The State government officials, who allotted the lands for the institute, are confident that the committee would give its approval for establishment of the institute by December-end.

Minister for Health Kamineni Sreenivas has planned for laying foundation for the instiute during the Sankranti festival season.

It may be recalled that an extent of 190 acres belonging to TB Sanatorium has been earmarked by the district administration for AIIMS institute. The picturesque location nestling in hills is considered to be an ideal place for setting up the institute. The committee was to have made a visit two months ago but was postponed for technical reason. The government has promised to widen the road leading to the proposed institute into 100-feet way.
