Sales yield Rs.791.41 cr in eight months of this financial year

Karimnagar: There has been a significant increase in liquor sales in Karimnagar district during the current financial year. The district is currently standing second in the State in liquor sales. Last year it stood fifth in united Andhra Pradesh.


The district faced severe drought conditions this year and several traders were complaining that there has been a steep decline in their businesses. However, it is an altogether different scenario for liquor traders.

The sales have gone up significantly at all liquor shops and bar and restaurants. There is big demand for beer bottles and they are running out of stock in no time.

Karimnagar district recorded a business of Rs 688.14 crore through liquor sales in 2012-13 while the business recorded in 2013-14 is Rs 712.90 crore. This year already the sales have gone up by Rs 80 crore when compared to last year. During the first eight months of the current financial year, Karimnagar district recorded a business of Rs 791.41 crore through liquor sales. The district is recording sales to the tune of Rs 100 crore every month. The sales are expected to touch Rs 150 crore per month during summer.

There are 301 liquor shops and 46 bar and restaurants in the district. The belt shops are reportedly spread over the entire district.

While Ranga Reddy district is currently in the first place in liquor sales, Karimnagar district may even surpass Ranga Reddy at the end of the financial year.

The excise officials in the district seem to be in a buoyant mood as they will be able to improve the excise tax collection this year with the increase in sales of liquor.
