Two most wanted chain snatchers held, 6.3 kg gold recovered

Hyderabad: In a major catch, the East Zone Task Force Team apprehended two most wanted chain snatchers, one of whom has 106 Non Bailable Warrants (NBW) pending. A total of 6.3 kgs of gold ornaments were recovered from their possession. The accused Syed Hussain alias Lamba Hussain, 27, and Mirza Azmath Ali Baig alias Ali, 22, both residents of Kalapather, were involved in 228 chain snatching cases for the last two years under Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerate limits. They were arrested at Gulzar House on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons, the City Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said Syed Hussain stabbed of one of the constables when two of them tried to catch him near Kothapet under Chaitanyapuri police station limits on November 14. Moreover, he fled from the spot along with the two wheeler of the constable. The constable received severe bleeding injuries during the scuffle. “Later the accused along with his associate Azmath burnt the two-wheeler at a remote place in Shamshabad,” said the Commissioner.
Their modus operandi involved using of high-end bikes like Karizma during the offence. They targeted women walking in lanes of less populated localities. In most of the cases, Syed Hussain committed snatching singlehandedly. Previously he was arrested in 2010, 2011 and 2012 under various cases of chain snatchings.
“Repeat professional offenders involving in large number of chain snatching will be booked under PD Act since they have been creating panic among women thereby preventing them from free movement on the streets. This is affecting the safety and security of women at large and thereby affecting the public order,” said Mahender Reddy.
