  • Manjeera to be used only for irrigation needs of Medak

Earlier, accompanied by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy and senior officials of irrigation department, the Chief Minister made an aerial survey of Ghanpur Anicut and Manjeera River in Medak district. Later, he stated that the government had formulated plans to utilise Manjeera water to irrigate 25,000 to 30,000 acres of lands in Medak district.

He directed the Irrigation Department to undertake all repair and development works near Ghanpur Anicut so that water could be stored upto the maximum limit and utilised for irrigation purposes. At least 1.5-2 tmcft of water could be stored and water can be drawn from Singur project when levels decrease. This Anicut was built in 1904 but it was neglected in undivided Andhra Pradesh rule.

Rao further said Manjeera water would be utilised only for irrigation needs of Medak district in the future. He also announced that each village would be given Rs 15 lakhs which can be used for infrastructure facilities like construction of roads and underground drainage system. He said the village panchayat need not call for tenders for the works.

That would lead to delay in works and also controversies. In the morning, Rao offered prayers at Yadagirigutta and later held a review meeting on the temple development. He asked officials to acquire private lands in the middle of revenue and forest lands to develop the shrine in 2000 acres.
