Multi-Level Grade Separators (MLGS) and elevated ways will come up in the city to ease perennial traffic woes. The decision was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao after a review meeting with senior officials of the transport department, civic bodies and consultants in the Secretariat on Friday.

This comes close on the heels of his earlier direction to officials urging them to come up with proposals for pedestrian friendly plans (against an estimated Rs 30, 000 crore) that were earmarked at all important junctions where traffic flow remains very high. In Friday’s meeting the official unveiled their roadmap for the same, which specifically covered Hari Hara Kala Bhavan to Uppal; Masab Tank to Hari Hara Kala Bhavan; Nagarjuna Circle to Madhapur; Tarnaka to ECIL X Roads in addition to six other busy roads. Rao sought to have under-ways to facilitate commuters’ passage.

“There are 30 to 40 junctions where hundreds of vehicles halt when the signal turns red. With the construction of elevated ways, the flow will be relatively smoother, and also reduce the possibility of road mishaps,” he added.
