Mid-Day Meal: Kids to get quality food
District Collector M Veera Brahmaiah instructed the officials concerned on Thursday to provide meals to children cooked with superfine rice under mid-day meal scheme.
Karimnagar: District Collector M Veera Brahmaiah instructed the officials concerned on Thursday to provide meals to children cooked with superfine rice under mid-day meal scheme. He has convened a review meeting at the Collectorate with hostel welfare officers, special officers of Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools, Principals of Gurukul Schools and Mandal Educational Officers on effective implementation of mid-day meal scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, Veera Brahmaiah said that meals cooked with superfine rice would be provided to students studying in 3049 schools and residing in 309 social welfare hostels across the district. He stated that mid-day meal scheme with superfine rice would be implemented from January 1. He said 570 metric tonnes of superfine rice is needed every month to provide meals to 37,051 students in the district.
The District Collector has informed that superfine rice would be supplied directly to social welfare hostels before December 30 while Principals of Gurukul Schools should collect it from ration shops. He pointed out that district administration is purchasing superfine rice on behalf of the state government for Rs 25 per kilo. After adding other costs, he said cost of one kilo rice is Rs 35 and same is being supplied to welfare hostels and Gurukul schools for Re 1 a kilo.
Veera Brahmaiah has informed hostel welfare officers and Principals not to give scope for irregularities in the implementation of mid-day meal scheme. He warned of suspending those officials who show laxity in the implementation of the scheme. He said that surprise checks would be conducted to inspect implementation of mid-day meal scheme. He told officials that the state government was spending Rs 4.8 crore every month towards mid-day meal scheme. District Collector gave a call to hostel welfare officers to strive to impart their duties with commitment for the development of students so that people can appreciate them.
He said that appreciation certificates would be presented on Republic Day (January 26) to those hostel welfare officers, who have implemented mid-day meal scheme effectively. He has instructed the principals to make an effort for achieving 100 per cent results in Tenth Class public exam. Joint Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed and other officials were present.
